Adequate Program of Veterinary Care Dr. Beverly Jan Gnadt is the new Director of the Division of Comparative Medicine effective March 1, 2005. Dr. Gnadt received her D.V.M. from the University of California, Davis in 1987 and was board certified by the American College of Laboratory Medicine in 1997. She was the Associate Director of the Animal Care Facility at UCSF from 1987-1997 and the Director of the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources at Stony Brook University from 1997-2005. She was also the Consulting Veterinarian for the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory from 2002-2005. She has served as an IACUC member, at 4 academic institutions, from 1987-2005. She also served on the AAALAS Education Committee (1997-1999), the AALAS Program Committee (1997-1999) and the AAALAS Management Certification Committee (2000-2003). In 2005 she served as an ad hoc member on the Scientific and Technical Review Board on Biomedical and Behavioral Research Facilities for the National Center for Research Resources. Dr. Gnadt is a member of the GUMC Animal Care and Use Committee (GUACUC) and is actively involved in the review of all protocols, the inspection of facilities, and the review of the institutional programs involving research, testing and teaching in laboratory animals. She continues to review the animal care and use program in an effort to both foster, and enhance, the existing program by supporting, revising and implementing techniques and procedures aimed to improve laboratory animal health and well-being. Dr. Gnadt has full authority to execute the duties and responsibilities inherent in assuring the program of veterinary care and oversees all aspects of the animal care and use program at the Georgetown University Medical Center. Dr. Sonya Gearhart started in July, 2005 as Senior Clinical Veterinarian. Dr. Gearhart received her D.V.M. from the Ohio State University in 1999 and worked in private practice from 1999-2002. She completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Laboratory Animal Medicine at Columbia University in December of 2004 and was appointed as Acting Clinical Veterinarian in January 2005. She is a voting member of the IACUC and has been involved in establishing new departmental policies and procedures, developing new training courses for technicians and researchers, providing clinical care for a wide variety of laboratory animal species and developing a new IACUC protocol form. She is ACLAM board certified. Her general responsibilities within the DCM will include surgical and medical care, anesthesia and post-procedural support, management of health surveillance and preventative medicine programs, training of departmental and research staff, and active participation as a voting member of the GUACUC. Mr. Anthony Cleveland is the DCM Head Veterinary Technician.
Mr. Lloyd Moore started working for the DCM in June 2005. Since 1998, and prior to his employment with the DCM Lloyd worked as a Technician in a variety of veterinary clinical practices in the Northern Virginia region. Aside from clinical practices, Lloyd has worked in specialty practices to include Emergency Medicine, Veterinary Cardiology, Internal Medicine, and Orthopedic/Soft tissue Surgery. Recruitment is underway for an additional Senior Clinical Veterinarian and for an additional Veterinary Technician. These positions have been posted and will be filled as soon as an appropriate candidates are identified. |
